St.Gallen, 1 February 2016: The Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) Roundtable has launched the Public Review of Draft 1 of the Guidance Principles for secondary metals. Draft 1 is published on the SRI website and is available for comments until March 31, 2016. This will be the first of two public reviews planned for the development of the Guidance Principles, which are expected to be finalized by November 2016.

The aim of this Public Review is threefold: (i) collect comments from key stakeholders in order to ensure that the Guidance Principles can be applied worldwide and are beneficial to all affected parts; (ii) follow the requirements of the ISO IWA 19 process and (iii) comply with the ISEAL Code of Good Practice requirement by ensuring that at least two rounds of public consultations of 60 and 30 days respectively take place during the process.

The Guidance Principles are being developed through an International Workshop Agreement (IWA) under the International Standards Organization (ISO). The proposal for an IWA on these Guidance Principles was officially accepted by the ISO Technical Management Board in April 2015 as the ISO IWA 19. This ISO IWA process is based on consensus building, includes four Workshop sessions followed by public reviews and runs until the end of 2016. The Workshop Session #1 was held in Davos (14-16 October 2015) and a report is available here. More information about the motivation, scope or process of the Guidance Principles is available here.
