Following two successful previous sessions (2012 and 2014) the E-Waste Academy – Managers Edition (EWAM) will take place for the third time, on 22–26 February 2016, in Nairobi, Kenya. EWAM focuses on policy development and e-waste system design, and targets policymakers, government officials (PMs) and representatives of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), such as recyclers, refurbishers and collectors. It will provide a neutral platform for discussion and exchange of best practices and expert feedback.
EWAM has been developed as a project under the Solve the E-Waste Problem Initiative (Step). EWAM receives technical and financial support from the Sustainable Recycling Industries (SRI) programme. The academy has proven to be vital in building capacity in e-waste research, policy and management to foster partnerships and establish opportunities for further collaboration. Viewing the e-waste issue in its entirety, rather than through the lens of a specific discipline, the academy adopts a multi-stakeholder approach by providing tailored and targeted training and capacity building for different stakeholder groups.
